Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited oil and gas production sites and a number of active drilling rigs in Egypt’s Western Desert, accompanied by petroleum sector leadership. The visit began at the Meliha fields operated by Agiba Petroleum Company, with the participation of leadership from Italy’s Eni, a key partner in Egypt’s petroleum sector.

During the visit, the Minister reviewed progress on Phase II of the Meliha Gas Processing Plant Expansion Project, which Agiba is developing in cooperation with Petrojet as the main contractor, alongside its partner SLB. The project aims to add new gas volumes to domestic production ahead of peak summer demand and enable the tie-in of new wells to the production network.

He also visited the EDC-41 drilling rig operated by the Egyptian Drilling Company, which is currently drilling the “Garden-2” well in the Meliha area. Initial production is expected to begin within approximately 15 days, estimated at around 3 million cubic feet of gas and 500 barrels of crude oil per day.

The Minister went up to the drilling rig platform, met with the work teams, reviewed operational progress, and received a detailed briefing on ongoing activities.
